Does the impending digital TV transition signal the end of interlaced video?
With the digital TV transition soon approaching in the United States, will the major networks stop shooting shows on interlaced video formats? Currently, most daytime TV programs (soaps, talk shows, news, game shows) continue to be shot interlaced, giving them that "live" look that viewers are accustomed to, whereas most primetime sitcoms and dramas (e.g. The Office, Lost, Desperate Housewives) are shot on progressive 24p cameras, lending them their signature "cinematic" look. I understand that og/digital and interlaced/progressive are separate concepts, but I wonder how the DTV transition will affect TV producers' choices of video format. Anyone working in the TV industry know the scoop?
